Applications of laser cutting machines in the medical device industry
The medical device industry is a high-tech industry characterized by multidisciplinary collaboration, knowledge intensity, and capital intensity, with high barriers to entry. With the deepening of reform and opening up, increased government support, and accelerated integration, China’s medical device industry has experienced rapid development. China has become the world’s third-largest medical device market, after the United States and Japan. The continuous development of medical device technology requires not only technological innovation but also more advanced processing methods and equipment to manufacture superior new medical devices. For companies specializing in the development, production, and sales of medical device ward equipment, pharmacy equipment, central supply room equipment, sterilization equipment, and pharmaceutical equipment, the annual volume of sheet metal processing used in equipment manufacturing is substantial.
With the introduction of new medical device products, existing sheet metal processing equipment such as shearing machines, bending machines, punching machines, and turret punches can no longer meet the needs of large-scale irregular-shaped sheet metal cutting. Many small-batch, multi-variety products and early-stage development products require extensive laser cutting processing during production. The application of laser cutting is becoming increasingly widespread and in-depth.
Laser cutting offers the following advantages in medical device manufacturing:
- It can process various complex structures;
- It eliminates the need for mold making; products can be processed immediately upon drawing, enabling rapid new product development and cost savings;
- It can fulfill complex process requirements that CNC punching machines cannot achieve;
- It produces smooth cutting surfaces, enhancing product quality and eliminating the need for secondary processing.
