TL;DR: To prevent severe hardware damage and ensure operator safety, a fiber laser cutting machine must be powered on and off in a strict sequence. Startup: Utilities (Power, Chiller, Gases) → Laser Source → CNC Control & Homing. Shutdown: Laser Source → Chiller → Gases → CNC Control. Never alter this sequence, and always ensure the Z-axis (cutting head) is clear of obstacles before initiating the machine’s return-to-zero (homing) cycle.
A laser cutter integrates high-voltage electronics, pressurized gases, delicate optics, and heavy moving gantries. Therefore, operating the machine is not as simple as flipping a single switch. An operator must be fully familiar with the equipment’s architecture and strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Before touching the computer or the laser source, you must ensure the machine’s “life support” systems are stable. Clear the site of all unauthorized personnel.
- Main Power Supply: Turn on the main breaker. Verify that the incoming power supply voltage and the three-phase balance meet the strict electrical requirements of the machine tool.
- Start the Industrial Chiller: Power on the water chiller first. Wait a few minutes and check the digital display to confirm that the water temperature is reaching the set point and the water pressure is circulating normally.
- Open the Compressed Air: Turn on the air compressor and refrigerated dryer. Verify that the air pressure gauge shows stable output.
- Prepare Assist Gases (Nitrogen/Oxygen): Open the valves on your gas cylinders or bulk tanks. Check the pressure regulators. If the high-pressure side of your cylinder drops below 0.6 MPa, the cylinder is nearly empty and must be replaced before you begin a cutting job to prevent mid-cut failures.
Fase 2: Arranque del sistema y calibración
Once the utilities are confirmed stable, you can wake up the machine’s brain and engine.
- Start the Laser Source: Turn on the main fiber laser source (e.g., IPG, Raycus, or MAX). Wait for the internal system to initialize; the “Laser Ready” or “Emission” light should illuminate, indicating no internal faults. (Refer to your specific laser source manual for exact indicator lights).
- Encienda el sistema de control CNC y lleve la máquina al origen (Home): Turn on the machine’s computer and launch the control software (e.g., Cypcut). Once the software loads, you must command the machine to “Return to Zero” (Home).
- Input the Processing Program: Load your CAD/CAM file into the software, nest your parts, and set your cutting parameters.
- Configure Gas Pressure: Turn on the software’s auxiliary gas control. Adjust the proportional valves based on your material type and thickness. Ensure the low-pressure alarm sensor is active—this guarantees the machine will automatically stop cutting if gas pressure drops, saving your focusing lens from catastrophic spatter damage.
Fase 3: Procesamiento y monitoreo
- Load and Clamp the Workpiece: Safely load your metal sheet onto the shuttle table. Ensure it is flat and secure to prevent shifting during high-speed acceleration.
Operational Excellence at XT LASER: Following a strict SOP like the one above is the absolute foundation of high-efficiency manufacturing. At our XT Laser Jinan Testing Center, we enforce these exact operational standards to eliminate equipment downtime and maximize energy output.
When a machine is properly initialized and maintained, its processing efficiency skyrockets. We engineer this philosophy of accessible, standardized efficiency into all our equipment. It is exactly why our latest XT LASER handheld welding devices are dominating the market—the intelligent preset parameters and robust hardware allow even a complete beginner to flawlessly weld 2mm stainless steel up to 6 veces más rápido than an experienced TIG master. Perfect operational sequences unlock maximum machine potential.
- Turn off the Laser Source: (Never turn off the chiller while the laser source is still on).
- Apague el enfriador de agua.
- Close Nitrogen and Oxygen Valves: Ensure they are tightly sealed to prevent overnight gas leakage.
- Registrar el turno: Clean the work area, empty the scrap drawers, and record the day’s operating conditions in the machine’s logbook. Document any minor faults or strange noises so your maintenance team can diagnose them early.
